Peggy Dennison is experienced at weaving words into stories and creating magical events. As a writer and performer her work focuses on educating children about the importance of values like courage, compassion and kindness. She teaches the children to BELIEVE; to believe in themselves, to believe in their dreams, and to believe in their community.Peggy intertwines words and images into a tapestry that remains in the hearts of children and touch their souls. The sparkle that brightens in their eyes and the confidence they leave with in their hearts is golden; an experience which cannot be surpassed. By engaging children in the performance itself lifelong memories are formed. Children are both educated and inspired. She involves every child in the audience in the performance. Every event includes props which she brings to invite the children into the magical world of make believe before a word is ever spoken. Most importantly the children remember the message of the story.Peggy Dennison holds a B.A. in Psychology from James Madison University. Her many years of volunteer experience with children combined with her education, natural instinct and love provide her with the ability to capture and keep a child’s attention.- She is a Virginia Beach Library Storytime Provider since 2002 and has told stories at many libraries and schools in Hampton Roads. She appeared in the Child Fair at Hampton Coliseum for Square One.
- In Norfolk, VA, Peggy has volunteered at CHKD Children’s Hospital, and for FOR KIDS, INC., a local program helping homeless mothers and the children rebuild their lives.
- She was the Narrator with Seven Movements in Dance, a performing studio, for several years.
- She was a children’s Pageant Director producing many children’s plays and musicals, featuring the annual Christmas Plays.
- She volunteered as Camp Counselor during many summers with special needs children, locally at Camp Civitan and Camp Farrar. She volunteered with hearing impaired children in a local elementary school and with the recreation department teaching visually impaired children to swim.
Peggy’s mission is simply to help the children to: BELIEVE in themselves BELIEVE in their dreams & BELIEVE in their community.Her most recent story Always Believe parallels the events of September 11, and occurs in the setting of a magical kingdom on the moon. Community Spirit and involvement are featured. Every child leaves with the belief that when the whole community works together we can turn the sour lemon-like experiences of life into lemonade. This lively and exciting event conveys the theme that community spirit is essential. Peggy’s efforts are well remembered…………..
